Nominate Foster Care Youth to be an Alabama Page
The Office of Permanency, Independent Living Program is pleased to announce that our Legislators have expressed interest in Alabama’s foster youth serving as Pages again this legislative session. This will be the 7th year our youth in foster care have served as Pages and in the years past the youth have found this to be an important opportunity in fostering leadership and learning about the legislative process.
There will be 8 positions available this year for youth in foster care. We are requesting social workers consider and submit names of youth leaders in your county for participation in the 2013 Legislative Session. The dates for this year are May 7, 8, and 9, 2013. Please remember candidates to be considered should be responsible, motivated to learn, able to follow instructions and rules of staff, require minimal supervision, respectful, and able to disseminate information to others. Those youth that reside outside the Tri-County Area will need to be able to spend the night to ensure they are at their post as scheduled. Social workers will have the responsibility of transporting their youth to Montgomery, making overnight accommodations and for the supervision of their youth while he/she is not serving as a Page. Participation as a Page is an appropriate ILP activity; therefore ILP funds may be used for any purchases for teens and overnight accommodations.
Priority will be given to those youth who have not had an opportunity to serve as a Page in the past.
Names of potential candidates along with a brief biography of the youth should be submitted to Kanoschu.Campbell@dhr.alabama.gov no later than, Tuesday, March 19, 2013. As candidates are reviewed and selected, social workers will be notified by email.
